Defending champions Serbia saw their EuroBasket Women campaign come to a premature end in the Czech Republic today.

The Rio 2016 bronze medallists were upset by Latvia, who progressed to the quarter-finals with a narrow 75-70 victory at the Kralovka Arena in Prague.

The Latvians always had the upper hand and led 24-12 at the end of the first quarter.

Serbia came back into the match though and at half time had cut the deficit to 34-32.

They failed to capitalise on their comeback as Latvia held their own in the third period, with the score 53-51 going into the final stanza of the match.

Latvia extended their lead in the fourth quarter, scoring 22 points to Serbia's 19, which saw them through to the last eight of the competition.

Three-time winners Russia were also knocked out in the second upset of the day.

They were beaten 62-58 by Greece at the Kralovka Arena.

The Russians had trailed by 14 points going into the fourth quarter but a stunning late comeback could not prevent their exit from the competition.

Italy also booked their place in the last eight with an extremely nervy 49-48 win over Hungary at the Hradec Kralove Arena.

After trailing by six points going into the last period, the Italians emphatically overturned the deficit to snatch the victory.

Slovakia are also through to the next round after they overcame Ukraine at the Hradec Kralove Arena.

The contest was in the balance going into the fourth quarter but an emphatic end to the match from the Slovaks guided them to a 82-68 success.

Tomorrow is a rest day in the Czech Republic, with quarter-final action due to take place on Thursday (June 22).
