Spain claimed a men's and women's victory on the opening day of the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) European Championships on the Spanish Canary Island Tenerife.

The women opened the competition with a comprehensive victory over Turkey at the Pabellón Las Torres.

It was an emphatic display from the hosts as they ran out 82-10 winners.

The Spanish men's team then completed the double with a 73-54 win over Switzerland this evening.

Prior to this evening's fixtures, an Opening Ceremony took place featuring a Parade of Nations.

Before the start of each game today a one minute silence was held in tribute to Ron Coppenrath, the former IWBF Europe secretary general who died on June 8.
