Liu Yukun of China secured his second medal of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Junior World Championships as he won a thrilling men's 50 metre rifle three positions final in Suhl today.

The Chinese shooter banished the disappointment of having to settle for silver in yesterday's 10m air rifle event by topping the podium at the Schießsportzentrum.

The 20-year-old took the junior world title as he prevailed in a shoot-off with the Czech Republic’s Filip Nepejchal.

Both shooters had amassed a total of 456.4 points, meaning a decisive tie-breaker was the only way to decide the destination of the gold medal.

Liu laid down an impressive marker with his effort as he scored a 10.3, which Nepejchal was unable to match as he could only muster a 8.7.

The result handed Liu his first junior world crown.

Norway’s 19-year-old Henrik Larsen, who was in pole position earlier on a the competition but failed to build on his lead, ended with the bronze medal.

The Norwegian scored 445.4 to comfortably beat fourth-placed finisher Borna Petanjek, who claimed bronze in the 10m air rifle yesterday.

Petanjek finished some way adrift of Larsen on a score of 433.7.
