Sophie Devine became the first woman in One-Day International (ODI) history to hit nine sixes as her blistering innings helped New Zealand record an emphatic eight-wicket win over Pakistan at the County Ground in Taunton.

Devine finished on a score of 93 off just 41 balls as New Zealand comfortably reached their target of 145 with 35 overs to spare.

The commanding victory for the White Ferns sent Pakistan crashing out of the competition.

In the other match to take place today, South Africa beat India by 115 runs at Grace Road in Leicester.

Pakistan suffered a dismal day at the office as they were bowled out for a miserly 144.

Medium-pacer Hannah Rowe was the star performer with the ball for New Zealand as she took 3-22, while Leigh Kasperek, Lea Tahuhu and Amelia Kerr chipped in with two wickets apiece.

Despite a relatively straightforward task ahead of them, New Zealand started sluggishly as Rachel Priest's dismissal left them 12-1.

Devine's introduction changed the course of the contest though, as she dispatched the Pakistan attack to all areas of the ground before falling seven short of her century.

Her display saw her set a world record for the amount of sixes hit in a women's innings in an ODI.

The performance from the 27-year-old New Zealander also strengthened her side's grip on a place in the semi-finals of the tournament in England.

New Zealand are next in action on Wednesday (July 12) when they take on the host nation at the County Ground in Derby.

South Africa were in fine form for the bat in their clash with India as they made 273-9 from their 50 overs.

Lizelle Lee top-scored for the Proteas as she hit 92, while captain Dane van Niekerk starred with bat and ball.

Van Niekerk scored 57 before she took 4-22 to help skittle India for 158.

The tournament continues tomorrow as England play Australia at the Bristol County Ground and the West Indies entertain Sri Lanka in Derby.
