Hosts the United States booked their place in the final of the World Cup of Softball as they picked up two victories on the final day of group action in Oklahoma City.

The American team were in fine form to secure their spot in tomorrow's showpiece contest after they beat Puerto Rico and Australia at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Complex.

Japan await for the US in the gold medal showdown after they thrashed the women's junior team 5-0.

Five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning proved crucial to the hosts' 8-2 win over Puerto Rico.

The host nation then guaranteed top spot in the group with a comprehensive 10-1 win against Australia to ensure they completed the first phase unbeaten.

"This team is pretty focused on the task at hand," head coach Ken Eriksen said.

“We’re getting two strike or two out hits which shows we aren’t giving up.

"It’s like the team is putting their foot in the door and not letting anyone close it until they say it’s going to close.

"I was really happy with the way we came out on top in the first inning against Australia tonight.

"It was a grind getting through pool play because these teams continue to get better.

"We know that we have a formidable opponent tomorrow."

Elsewhere, Canada beat Australia 5-4 to finish third in the group, with the Australian team claiming fourth place despite two defeats today.

The two sides will clash in the third place play-off tomorrow.

Mexico also sealed victory over Puerto Rico, emerging with a 5-2 success to earn their first win of the tournament.

Mexico will play The Philippines, who recorded a 4-2 win over the same opponents today.

The other match on the last day of the competition will see the women's junior team entertain Puerto Rico.
