The NOCSL were given the opportunity to undertake the project by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The Inter-School Olympic Values Education Debate Project will help enhance the Olympic values in Sri Lanka, it is claimed.

Schools in the cities of Colombo and Kandy were chosen for the scheme by the Ministry of Education.

Royal College, Ananda College, Nalanda College, Hindu College, Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya, Muslim Ladies College, St Peter’s College, Bishop’s College and Musaeus College have been selected from Colombo.

Dharmaraja College, Kingswood College, Pushpadana Girls’ College, Girls’ High School, Mahamaya Girls’ College, Gampola Zahira College, Good Shepherd Convent, Trinity College, St Anthony’s College and Hillwood College have been chosen from Kandy.

The IOC's Olympic Values Education Programme (OVEP) includes a series of free and accessible teaching resources.

Participants are encouraged to experience values-based learning and to assume the responsibilities of good citizenship.

According to the IOC, the scheme "communicates the benefit of sport and physical activity through an understanding of Olympism and its impact on individual health, enjoyment, and social interaction".

The organisation also claim it allows young people to experience life values such as excellence, respect and friendship.
