Belarus’ Anastasiya Prokopenko delighted the home crowd by claiming the women’s individual title at the European Modern Pentathlon Championships in Minsk today.

The 31-year-old scored a total of 1,350 points to beat closest challenger Sarolta Kovacs of Hungary by a margin of 14.

Turkey’s İlke Özyüksel repeated her bronze medal-winning performance from last year with a score of 1,333.

Two-time defending champion Laura Asadauskaite of Lithuania withdrew from the final with a virus.

Russia’s Gulnaz Gubaydullina, the 2016 silver medallist, finished way down in 33rd place.

Italy won the team event with Irene Prampolini, Alice Sotero and Gloria Tocchi amassing an unrivalled 3,963.

Kovacs and Hungarian team-mates Zsofia Foldhazi and Tamara Alekszejev came second with 3,909, while Belarus rounded out the podium as Prokopenko, Volha Silkina and Tatsiana Khaldoba collated 3,891.

The men’s individual final is scheduled to take place tomorrow.
