South Korean figure skaters will begin their bids for a place at their home Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang tomorrow.

The Figure Skating Korea Challenge at Seoul's Mokdong Ice Rink is one of three domestic events which will count towards qualification for the Games next year.

A second competition will be held by the Korea Skating Union in December before the National Championships in January.

Combined scores from all three competitions will decide who represents the country on home ice in Pyeongchang in February.

South Korea has only secured qualification in the women's singles event so far, however.

Choi Da-bin earned the host nation two quota places after a top ten finish at the International Skating Union (ISU) World Championships in March.

She came 10th in Finnish capital Helsinki but South Korea did not earn any spots in the men's, pairs or ice dance competitions.

There is a final chance for countries to gain quota places, however, at the ISU Nebelhorn Trophy in Oberstdorf in Germany between September 27 and 30.

Six places can still be won in each of the men's and women's singles competitions, with five available in pairs and four in ice dancing.

Seventeen-year-old Choi has faced a tough time preparing after her mother died in June.

"I am going through a difficult time, but I am trying to stay strong," the Asian Winter Games champion said, according to Yonhap

"I thought about pulling out of this event, but I felt like I'd have regrets if I didn't skate here."

Pyeongchang 2018 will take place between February 9 and 25.
