Hosts Chinese Taipei defeated the Czech Republic at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Under-12 World Cup as rain wiped out every other match on the schedule.

The home side eased past the Czech Republic 20-0 at the Tainan Municipal Stadium.

It means they have maintained their 100 per cent record in Group A after three matches and are joint top of the pile with Mexico.

The Czechs were defeated in four innings when the one-sided contest, the last of the day, was ended on the mercy rule.

Five other matches were all postponed by rain - caused by the Nesat typhoon - and will be played instead on August 2.

Mexico and Brazil were also due to lock horns in Group A, as were Japan and South Africa.

In Group B all three scheduled games - United States v Germany, South Korea v Nicaragua and Panama v Australia, did not start.

The bad weather came after Chinese Taipei's match against Japan was called off for rain yesterday.

That was also rearranged for August 2, leaving Japan facing two matches in a day.

More than 10,000 people in Taiwan had to be evacuated from their homes due to the typhoon, and have been living in shelters.

Group play will resume tomorrow, weather permitting.
