Defending champions the United States beat Panama today to remain undefeated at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Under-12 World Cup in Chinese Taipei.

The Americans' 7-3 victory at the Tainan Municipal Stadium makes it four wins out of four in Group B.

It also ensures they will head into the super round as the number one seeds.

Today’s other matches in Group B saw Nicaragua defeat Australia 10-4 and South Korea overcome Germany 7-2.

Heavy rain affected two of the three games in Group A with Japan’s clash against Brazil abandoned midway through and undefeated Mexico’s meeting with hosts Chinese Taipei postponed before it had even started.

Japan were leading Brazil 5-0 in the bottom of the third inning when the umpires decided to end proceedings.

That match has been re-scheduled for Thursday (August 3), while Mexico and Chinese Taipei will play each other tomorrow.

In the one game that was completed in Group A, Czech Republic beat South Africa 10-0.

Five matches were postponed yesterday due to rain caused by the Nesat typhoon and will be played instead tomorrow.

Mexico and Brazil were due to lock horns in Group A, as were Japan and South Africa.

In Group B, all three scheduled games - the US v Germany, South Korea v Nicaragua and Panama v Australia - did not start.

The bad weather came after Chinese Taipei's match against Japan was called off for rain on Sunday (July 30).

Japan are facing a gruelling schedule of three games in two days due to rearrangements.

More than 10,000 people in Taiwan had to be evacuated from their homes due to the typhoon and have been living in shelters.
