Argentina defeated Chile 9-2 ©PAHF

Olympic champions Argentina defeated Chile to secure a second successive victory at the men's Pan American Hockey Cup in Lancaster in Pennsylvania today.

The South Americans have 11 players from the team that defeated Belgium to win the gold medal at Rio 2016 in their squad for this tournament at the Spooky Nook Sports Complex.

They cemented first place in Group A with a comfortable 9-2 win over their fellow South Americans.

Gonzalo Peillat scored four times while Lucas Vila scored twice as Matias Paredes, Marc Ganly and Ignacio Ortiz completed the rout.

Vicente Goni and Vicente Martin scored the consolation goals for Chile, who find themselves second in Group A on three points with the United States.

After suffering the full force of Argentina in their first game, the Americans recovered to defeat Venezuela 5-0 today.

Amardeep Khokhar, Sean Cicchi, Alexander Grassi, Aki Kaeppeler and Tyler Sundeen all found the back of the net for the hosts.

In Group B, Canada cemented their place at the top of the standings with a 2-0 win over Brazil.

They lead the way with six points from a possible six with goals from Floris van Son and Keegan Pereira.

Trinidad and Tobago claimed their first win of the tournament with a narrow 3-2 victory over Mexico.

The Caribbean nation took the lead twice but Mexico pulled level on both occasions before Akim Toussaint scored the winner.

Kristien Emmanuel opened the scoring for Trinidad and Tobago before Irvin Chavez tied the match.

Lyndell Byer put the Trinidadians in front once again but their lead was short lived as Guillermo Pedraza equalised for Mexico once again.

Toussaint's effort proved to be decisive, however, as he scored three minutes from time to seal victory for Trinidad and Tobago.

The women's event is due to resume tomorrow with the second round of pool stage play.
