Italy have named two Rio 2016 Paralympic gold medallists in their squad for this year's World Para Swimming Championships in Mexico City.

Both Federico Morlacchi and Francesco Bocciardo have been named in a 13-strong team for the event, which will be held between September 30 and October 6.

Morlacchi, already a double World Championship gold medallist, won the SM9 200 metres medley title in Brazil, as well as three silver medals.

Bocciardo's gold came in the S6 400m freestyle division.

Other members of Italy's team include double Rio 2016 silver medallist Francesco Bettella and Giulia Ghiretti, who won silver and bronze in the Brazilian city.

Nineteen-year-old Monica Boggioni is also one to watch after she broke S4 100m and 200m world records this season.

The other members of the squad are Simone Barlaam, Vincenzo Boni, Cecilia Camellini, Antonio Fantin, Carlotta Gill, Efrem Morelli, Alessia Scortechini and Arjola Trimi. 

Sixty countries are set to be represented in Mexico City in all, with 550 swimmers due to compete at the Francisco Marquez Olympic Swimming Pool.

Competition will take place between September 30 and October 6 with the competition the first major event of the Tokyo 2020 cycle.

The Powerlifting World Championships will also take place in the Mexican capital at the same time as part of a festival of Para-sport.
