In March, a merger between the two main air sport organisations in Asia was agreed.

Following a meeting in Dubai, which also involved the Olympic Council of Asia and the World Air Sports Federation, the Airsport Federation of Asia and the Asian Air Sports Federation joined forces to form the Air Sports Federation in Asia (ASFA).

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the parties.

The ASFA is currently working on preparations for paragliding at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang in Indonesia.

Alongside future editions of the Asian Games, the newly-formed organisation is also looking at featuring sports under their banner at the Asian Winter Games and Asian Beach Games.
