The event, scheduled to take place from September 30 to October 6, will feature both the World Para Powerlifting and World Para Swimming Championships.

It will mark the first time two of the biggest Para-sport competitions have been held together.

The mascot was said to be chosen for being a feline native of the Americas and an important part in both Aztec and Maya mythologies.

It is claimed the four options for its name, selected by the Mexico City 2017 Organising Committee, reflect the culture in Mesoamerica.

Among them is Jahuari with "Huari" meaning "heart" in Náhuatl, the language spoken by Aztecs.

Others include Vaicári el Jaguar with "Vaicári" meaning "game" in Náhuatl and Paki el Jaguar with "Paki" meaning "happy" in the same language.

The fourth option is Juan El Jaguar with "Juan" being a very popular name in Mexico.

Votes can be cast until 11:59pm local time on August 20 via Mexico City 2017’s official website, which can be accessed here.

They can also be cast on the Facebook and Twitter pages of World Para Swimming and World Para Powerlifting.

The name with the most combined votes will be elected winner.

Voters will also be automatically entered into a draw to win two passes for all competition days and enjoy special experiences during the World Championships.

Around 550 swimmers from more than 60 countries are expected to compete at the Francisco Márquez Olympic Swimming Pool, while more than 360 powerlifters from 65 countries are due to gather in the Juan de la Barrera Olympic Gymnasium.

The venues are located in the same building.

It is hoped this will allow fans and the media to experience both events and enjoy the festival of Para-sport.
