The Australian Uniroos will feature 186 athletes in 16 different sports.

Included in the team are Commonwealth Games swimming gold medallists Leiston Pickett and Ben Treffers.

Pickett won the 50 metres breaststroke title at both Delhi 2010 and Glasgow 2014, while Treffers took 50m backstroke gold in the Scottish city three years ago.

Rio 2016 Olympians Michelle Jenneke, Brittany O’Brien and Heming Hu will compete in athletics, diving and table tennis respectively.

Double Gwangju 2015 bronze medallist Kiah Melverton will be hoping to add to her medal tally in the swimming pool.

This year Australian University Sport will celebrate 50 years of attending the Summer Universiade since making their debut appearance at Tokyo in 1967.

In that period Australian athletes have won a total of 159 medals including 45 golds, 44 silvers and 70 bronzes.

Sydney 2000 Olympian Liz Brett will lead the team as the Chef de Mission, accompanied by Kitty Chiller and Deidre Anderson.

Chiller served as the Chef de Mission for the Australian team at last year's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Anderson, President and chair of Australian University Sport, will serve as the organisation's delegate to the International University Sports Federation (FISU) General Assembly.

Australia will be hoping to improve on their medal tally from Gwangju 2015.

The finished 15th in the medal table with four golds, three silvers and 12 bronzes.

Scheduled to take place from August 19 to 30, the Universiade will be the biggest sporting event that Taiwan has ever hosted.

It will feature 21 sports and be held in venues in Taipei, Keelung, New Taipei, Taoyuan and Hsinchu.
