The Czech Republic claimed four gold medals on the opening day of finals at the Junior and Under-23 Canoe Slalom European Championships in Hohenlimburg in Germany.

Tereza Fiserova, Martina Satkova and Jana Matulkova triumphed in the C1 under-23 women's team event in a combined total of 137.35sec to beat teams from Slovenia and Slovakia, who claimed silver and bronze respectively.

The Czechs then took victory in the K1 junior women's team competition as Lucie Nesnidalova, Antonie Galuskova and Katerina Bekova clocked 127.90.

France were over six seconds slower in their three runs on the course as they had to settle for silver, while bronze went to Russia.

Tomas Zima, Josef Zizala and Jan Barta completed the Czech hat-trick on the first day of gold medal action on the Lenne River as they won the K1 junior men's team event in 117.18.

Italy and Germany were the recipients of the silver and bronze medals respectively.

The Czech canoeists ended the day in style as they claimed the C1 junior men's teams honours in 120.99 thanks to Vojtech Heger, Matyas Lhota and Jan Kaminsky.

Spain earned silver and Poland took bronze.

France also enjoyed a successful outing as they picked up three titles.

Mathieu Desnos, Pol Oulhen and Mathurin Madore powered to victory in the K1 men's under-23 team competition in 111.75 to oust Slovenia.

Austria did enough for the bronze medal.

The second French success came in the C1 men's under-23 team competition as Lucas Roisin, Erwan Marchais and Cedric Joly completed their runs in a combined 114.01.

Germany clinched silver, while the Czech Republic added to their medal haul with bronze.

Slovakia won the penultimate event of the day as they topped the podium in the C1 junior women's team event.

Simona Glejtekova, Sona Stanovska and Monika Skachova delivered victory for Slovakia in 138.58, just 0.07 quicker than Germany, while Russia claimed bronze.
