Austria and the Czech Republic each claimed two gold medals as individual finals began at the Junior and Under-23 Canoe Slalom European Championships in Hohenlimburg in Germany.

Viktoria Wolffhardt of Austria clinched the K1 under-23 women's title as she completed her run in a total time of 110.90.

The Czech Republic's Karolina Galuskova did enough for silver and bronze was sealed by Camille Prigent of France.

The second Austrian success came in the men's equivalent as Mario Leitner powered to victory by clocking an overall 96.77.

Italy's Jakob Weger was the recipient of the silver medal and Slovenia's Jan Jakse rounded out the podium with bronze.

The Czech Republic, who were victorious in three of the team events yesterday, also picked up two wins on the opening day of individual finals.

Vojtech Mruzek and Albert Kaspar triumphed in the C2 men's under 23 competition in 122.47 as they ousted the Slovakian pairing of Juraj Skakala and Matus Gewissler.

Pavel Kotov and Sergei Komkov of Russia earned bronze.

The country also claimed the C2 honours in the junior event thanks to Jan Vrublovsky and Petr Novotny, who finished the course in 130.92.

Nikolaos-Emmanouil Pantazis and Panagiotis Arvanitis of Greece and the Russian duo of Daniil Lipikhin and Igor Stafeev sealed silver and bronze respectively.

Elsewhere, Spaniard Laia Sorribes reigned supreme in the K1 women's junior event in 110.28 as she was comfortably quicker than Antonie Galuskova of the Czech Republic, who was second.

Bronze went to France's Romane Prigent.

Tine Kancler secured the K1 men's junior continental crown as he clocked 99.71 to beat Slovakia's Adam Gonsenica, while Simon Hene of France took bronze.

The event in Germany continues tomorrow.
