In the other match in Group B, Belgium bounced back from their 7-0 mauling at the hands of Turkey yesterday with a narrow 1-0 win over Georgia.

The result gave Belgium hope of reaching the next round and condemned Georgia to their second defeat of the tournament.

Hosts Germany were unable to build on their opening victory over Italy as they were beaten 2-1 by France.

David Labarre gave France the lead from the penalty spot in the 19th minute before Gael Riviere quickly doubled their advantage.

Taime Kuttig pulled a deserved goal back for Germany in the second half but the home side were not able to find an equaliser.

Elsewhere in Group A, Italy put in an impressive performance in a comfortable 4-0 win over Romania.

Paul Iyobo scored all four of Italy's goals as they recovered from their 2-1 reverse at the hands of the hosts yesterday.

The tournament in the German capital continues tomorrow with a further four matches.

Spain take on Russia and Turkey play Georgia in Group A, before England entertain France and Germany clash with Romania in Group B.
