Guatemala were in fine form as tennis competition reached its conclusion today at the 2017 Central American Games ©Managua 2017

Guatemala dominated the tennis and table tennis finals on their way to claiming nine gold medals today at the 2017 Central American Games in Managua.

Andrea Weedon was among the country’s victors having beaten Costa Rica’s Ariana Rahmamparast 6-3, 6-0 in the women’s singles tennis final in Nicaragua's capital. 

She then partnered Melisa Morales to women's doubles success thanks to a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Rahmamparast and Andrea Brenes.

In the men's doubles final, Guatemala’s Christopher Diaz and Wilfredo Gonzalez defeated El Salvador’s Alberto Alvarado and Marcelo Arévalo 7-6, 6-3.

There was disappointment for Guatemala, however, in the men’s singles final as Diaz lost 6-3, 6-2 to Arévalo.

Guatemala was the only nation represented in the table tennis doubles finals.

Hector Gatica and Heber Moscoso beat Alan Gutiérrez and Kevin Montufar in the men's doubles final, while Lucia Cordero and Andrea Montufar defeated Mabelyn Enríquez and Andrea Estrada in the women's doubles final.

In the mixed doubles final, Gatica and Estrada overcame Kevin Montufar and Cordero.

Guatemala ended the day at the top of the medal table with 94 golds, 78 silvers and 76 bronzes.

Action in Managua is scheduled to continue tomorrow.
